APO Shipping

While we would like to be able to ship all our products to APO addresses, we are limited in what we can provide.

We can only ship small items, such as futon covers, mattress protectors, and pillows to APO addresses.

Here's Why

Larger items, like futon frames and futon mattresses cannot be shipped to APO addresses at all, for a number of reasons.

  1. Our manufacturers ship out our products directly to you. We are dependent on their shipping departments since we do not ship anything directly from Futonsandbeanbags.com. None of the manufacturers who make futon frames, bunk beds, and loft bed frames, or bean bag products will ship to APO addresses.

    Our understanding is that APO shipping is for letter-size items and smaller packages.

  2. Manufacturers have too many concerns about costs related to product returns, products damaged in shipping, and the difficulty of getting replacement parts to you. The shipping expense and time delays are too great. Thus, they are unwilling to ship large items overseas.

  3. UPS, Fed Ex, and DHL will not accept large packages addressed to APO addresses. Virtually all of our futon frame and futon mattress manufacturers ship via Fed Ex or UPS. Both companies have refused to accept large parcels for delivery to APO addresses.

The one exception to this has been the Army Purchasing Department that ordered a number of futon frames and mattresses to be delivered to an Army shipping dock and transported abroad by the US military. That worked flawlessly because they provided a physical address in the US to Fed Ex.

Who Does Ship to APO Addresses

The manufacturers who are willing to use the US Postal Service are able to ship their products to APO addresses. They are all manufacturers of futon covers and pillows, and they offer so many products that you have many choices.

They happen to be our best quality futon cover fabric manufacturers, but if what you are interested in purchasing is a large futon set, it is unfortunate that we cannot provide that to you.

We have shipped many futon covers overseas to members of our armed forces at their APO Addresses. It is only the large items that don't work.

Other Shipping Ideas

If you can arrange for the US Military to receive the boxes and include them in the items to be delivered to your post abroad, you're halfway home. Fed Ex and UPS will take the items at no extra cost to you to a US location like a stateside loading dock. As long as you provide us with the correct address and very specific delivery instructions, there should be no problem.

You need a name, like a receiving agent; that is, a person who can sign for the pre-paid merchandise. Be sure to include identifying numbers to help guide your package, once there, to the right location to be shipped out along with your unit's other items.

We have also had US military customers who have had items shipped to their US homes, whereupon their families have taken over the shipping to a post abroad.

We apologize to all members of the US Armed Forces. We have struggled with this problem frequently, but since we do not control the shipping, the best we can do is assist you in getting the boxes or packages to a US address.
