A futon is a great piece of furniture for
your home, guest room, kids room, cabin, apartment, or college dorm room.
I purchased my first futon when I was in college and moved out of
a furnished dorm into my first apartment. While I had two roommates,
I had my own bedroom. Because I could fold my futon bed up during
the day into a couch I had a more spacious room in which I
could study, sit on my own cozy sofa to read, listen to music,
watch TV, or visit with a friend. A futon made my bedroom into my
own sitting room.
After I bought my first home, I used the same futon in a small bedroom
to make a more spacious guest room. When my first kids came along,
guess what I got for their bedrooms? You guessed it…kids futon
bunk beds. Some years later when I had a summer home on the Henry’s
Fork of the Snake River in Idaho, I purchased several more futons
because of what I had learned so many years ago in college.
An added bonus for me has been the ability to change a removable
futon cover when the use changes – college apartment room
to a guest room – my taste changes, or because of the wear
and tear suffered by my kids futon bunk beds.
Without a doubt, a futon, which might be called a futon sofa, futon
couch, futon bed, futon lounger, is in fact all of these things,
reflecting how versatile a futon can be.
